Un forte richiamo a mantenere le promesse fatte all'Africa, durante il vertice di Gleaneagles in Scozia, dagli 8 paesi economicamente pił sviluppati in materia di aiuti e di correzione delle politiche commerciali che la penalizzano, una condanna ferma e totale alle spese militari e al ritorno prepotente delle armi nucleari sulla scena politica internazionale: sono questi i punti centrali del documento conclusivo, che i premi Nobel per la pace riuniti a Roma in occasione del 6° Summit Mondiale hanno affrontato nell'ambito dellincontro di questanno intitolato: Emergenza Africa: dalle parole ai fatti riporta l'agenzia Misna. "Molti paesi africani si stanno impegnando e stanno compiendo grandi sforzi per far avanzare la democrazia e migliorare i propri governi, tutto per aumentare la propria credibilitą internazionale. Per questo č importante che il mondo mantenga le promesse fatte a tutte le persone dellAfrica".

Indonesian ensimmäinen suoralla vaalilla valittu presidentti Susilo Bambang Yudhyono on toistanut viime vuoden vaalikampanjassaan antamansa lupauksen Länsi-Papuan kiistan rauhanomaisesti ratkaisusta. Susilon mukaan kiista pitää ratkaista erityisautonomian puitteissa siten, että Papua pysyy osana Indonesian tasavaltaa.

The Netherlands is demanding guarantees from its NATO partners in Afghanistan and from President Hamid Karzai that prisoners will be treated in a humane manner, according to international law. In reaction to criticism in parliament, Foreign Minister Ben Bot said these guarantees were an important condition for the participation of Dutch troops in a dangerous mission in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan.

Il convegno promosso dai DS lunedi scorso a Roma su ''Per la pace, sempre. Le nuove sfide della Difesa" al quale sono intervenuti, oltre a Marco Minniti e Piero Fassino, il Ministro della Difesa Antonio Martino e il capo di Stato maggiore della Difesa Gianpaolo Di Paola, mirava soprattutto a tranquillizzare le Forze Armate sui "tagli" (tutti da dimostrare) alla Funzione Difesa annunciati dalla Finanziaria 2006 e a ribadire che, una volta al Governo, le spese saranno riportate all'1,5% del Pil. Tra la folta platea di militari, politici, osservatori e giornalisti, erano presenti anche vari rappresentati delle organizzazioni pacifiste. Dai loro commenti emerge un quadro alquanto differente da quello presentato da politici e analisti che pone domande precise alle forze politiche che intendono raccogliere le istanze del "popolo della pace".

United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with two B-H companies, NTCHS and Eronet, awarded today three high-school students from Sarajevo Canton for their poster designs on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) dangers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. First prize, advanced configuration PC, given together by UNDP and B-H company NTCHS, for the best poster and a motto Small Arms Big Problem went to Ilida High School student, Edvin Granulo.
