The International Helsinki Federation on Human Rights issued an open letter to the Greek Prime Minister, Mr. Constantine Simitis. The organisation denounced the abuses - resorting to inhuman and degrading treatment - reserved by the Greek authorities to Roma residing in the country.

A large group of Kosovo Roma has been stopped a few days ago at the Greek border with Macedonia. Roma were attempting to cross the border to seek refuge into Greece, but Athens denied such right alleging that the conditions of Roma in Kosovo are not to be considered of particular concern.
